The ‘Number Sixteen’ surf beach in Rye on Victoria, provides an amazing variety of attractions and beauty, sandy beach coves nestled between rocky outcrops, as well as the opportunity to explore numerous trails that lead through the dunes, along the clifftops, through dense vegetation which will often suddenly disburse to reveal the most enormous and stunning views across Bass Strait and along the ocean coastline !!!
The historic ‘Life Saving Track‘ commences its journey here, travelling north-westward and running parallel to Bass Strait, for some 9 km to Sorrento. Incidentally, the name ‘Number Sixteen’ comes from the fact that this location was Access Track No. 16 of the sixteen access points that linked together and formed this Life Saving trail . . .
Number 16 is a delightful, sandy, surf beach – a cove whose rocky outcrops bestow beautiful rock pools and formations that create delightful waterfalls as the sets roll in. Popular with surfers, fishermen, walkers, beach goers, photographers, naturalists and explorers – what a beautiful location to revel in.
A small car park provides direct access to this beautiful surf beach. This area forms part of the stunning ‘Mornington Peninsula National Park’ which runs all the way along the Bass Strait coast from Cape Schanck to ‘Point Nepean National Park‘ – a 26 km Coastal Walk runs the length of the park.
