Being surrounded by water, the views from the canals – to Lake King across to the mountains in the distance – to Raymond Island – to Lake Victoria across to the sand dunes that separate the Gippsland Lakes from Bass Strait – to Newlands Arm, are spectacular.
The terrain is relatively flat with the varied landscapes providing so many points of interest including information signage providing an insight into the fascinating history of the area . . .
The ride / walk along Sunset Drive, is breathtaking with many places to stop and take in the panorama, or, have a swim in the crystal clear waters. The trail continues on, for another 1.5 km or so westward, beyond the end of Sunset Drive.
The trail on the map is some 5.2 km in length (one way) encompassing trails, roads, country lanes, jetties, bridges and park lands. There are many places that one can detour down, to get an even better view.
The seaside village of Paynesville presents many eateries, boutique shopping and services.
Picnic facilities and amenities are located at numerous locales along the trail . . .
