What a wonderful way to spend an afternoon !!! Though the ‘Arthurs Seat Circuit Walk’ is only 1.63 km in length (marked in red in the map below), the many deviations from the trail, which meanders its way around the summit of the mountain, results in a wonderful few hours exploring gardens, sculptures, ponds, forests, history, monuments, and of course, the many lookouts yielding the most outstanding views !!
Though Arthurs Seat rises but 305 m above sea level, it is the only landmark of this height for many, many kilometres, hence the amazing panoramas. It also marks a face of the Selwyn Fault, a geological fault line which is still active, and thus sparks an element of mystery and intrique . . .
Information, seating, picnic facilities and amenities can be found at various intervals along the way.
