Gippsland Times – 13 Nov 1885

On Monday the 14th December 1885, the Gippsland Times reported:

“The Lakes’ Navigation Co.’s new paddle steamer, Tanjil, made a highly satisfactory trial trip on Saturday last.  She made the run from the wharf to the beacons against a head wind in one hour and 30 minutes, the return trip being accomplished in one hour and six minutes.  Mr Sloss, a representative of the firm who made the engines, was on board, and expressed himself as highly pleased with the manner in which they worked.  The boat will probably take up the running in a few days between Paynesville and the Entrance.  She is under the command of Captain Bull, and the engine room in charge of Mr Anderson.”
