Sited directly in front of Sorrento’s Surf Life Saving Club, a picturesque, paved terrace features interesting information signage about the ocean beach area. It includes historical, ecological, directional and useful safety information.
Viewing the area as it presents today, it is hard to imagine the Ocean Amphitheatre, Steam Tramway and station, rotundas, and many other historic infrastructures that once adorned the ocean foreshore. The only hint of its historic origins is Coppin’s Lookout high above and a beautiful 19th century building one passes upon the approach to the surf beach. The signage also makes us aware of the many ships and lives lost along this rugged coastline . . .
Remember to swim between the flags – Australia’s many amazing volunteer surf life saving crews dedicate their time and expertise to ensure our safety as we frolic in the surf . . .
Facilities available at Sorrento’s ‘Back Beach’ include: public toilets, picnic tables, sheltered picnic tables, numerous bench seats, outdoor showers, water fountain and rubbish bins.
