Located in Sale, Victoria, numerous picnic tables are dispersed along the banks of the beautiful Sale Canal.
Whilst enjoying the beautiful park-lands and gardens, it takes some time to realise the history and the enormity of the infrastructure that was built to cater for the steamers that once plied the waters of Gippsland’s lakes and rivers. Today, some of the infrastructure remains, however, sadly, not one paddle or screw steamer survived to help tell the tale of the incredible ingenuity of our founding pioneers . . .
Though initially built to link the water highways of the Gippsland’s lakes and rivers to the railway bound for Melbourne, today the Sale Canal is the perfect and tranquil location for a Sunday’s outing, picnics, water activities, bike riding, walking, boating, kayaking or just lazing in the sun.
Additional amenities provided at the Port of Sale include public toilets, pavilion, seating, viewing platforms, jetties, boat ramps, sheltered and unsheltered picnic tables, walking / cycling trails, just to name a few . . .
