Abutting the shores of Port Phillip Bay’s ‘Weeroona Bay’, the ‘W E Newton Reserve’ is a delightful haven providing picnic facilities and amenities under the shelter of mature Norfolk and Cypress Pines.
The park is almost divided in half by a walkway that leads directly to Portsea’s Historic Pier and the beach. Incidentally, the name ‘Weeroona Bay’ is a reminder of the many steamers that once plied the waters of Port Phillip Bay and were the lifeline to seaside villages such as Portsea – the ‘PS Weeroona‘ being a paddle steamer . . .
‘W E Newton Reserve’ features large lawned areas which are perfect to spread a picnic rug under the Sun as well as numerous picnic tables. Refreshments are available within a few metres walk of the park too. For the history buffs, a monument reminding us of Acting Lieutenant John Murray’s landing at this location on the 14th February 1802.
Facilities available at ‘W E Newton Reserve’ include: barbecues, picnic tables, playground, public toilets, water fountain, bench seats, and rubbish bins.
