‘Bicentennial Park’ is situate along the Burnett River foreshore in Mundubbera, Queensland. Established in 1988, this park includes a large variety of monuments and sculptures depicting those important events and people that shaped the township of Mundubbera, the surrounding district, and our nation, Australia.
Packed full of picnic facilities, information, points of interest, playgrounds, walking trails, exercise parks, amenities, and of course, the stunning river views – part of which includes the ‘Jones Weir’ in the distance – most of which is the river meandering its course through sandy banks and various terrains.
It includes the site of the first ever road bridge to suspend the Burnett River and abuts the relatively new ‘Dimitrious Bridge’, opened on the 4th December 1982.
The beautifully restored C17 Steam Locomotive takes pride of place in eastern end of the park – a powerful reminder of the importance of the railway to the establishment of Mundubbera as a township.
This enormous park is sheltered by beautiful mature trees. Access is via a car park off the Mundubbera-Durong Road – at the northern end of the ‘Dimitrious Bridge’, or, via Bauer Street where a service road runs almost the length of the park.
Well worth a visit – whether a passer-by, or, a local . . .
