Ban Ban Springs is located at the site of mythical springs, and at the junction of the Isis and Burnett Highways. It is also just 4 km east of the “farthest out station” of the 1840’s, selected and occupied by Mr Henry Herbert in 1846 – he named his run ‘Ban Ban‘, the name the township still beholds today.
The Rest Area is full of monuments and interesting information signage, as well as amenities and picnic facilities. It abuts the springs and a lagoon – mature trees provide welcome shelter.
A gateway erected in the September of 1972 acknowledges the Aboriginal origins as well as the pioneers, depicted bullock teams removing drays of timber. The gateway reads:
“Ban Ban Springs
Watering Place through the Ages”
There are also truck parking areas are on both sides of the Burnett Highway – just south of the Isis Highway.
There is much to explore and discover. A general store complex is located just across the road, and, 20 Hr stays are welcomed !!!
