Located on the western flank of the Pacific Highway, some 13.8 km north of the Parker Road turn off, Wells Crossing, the Lambrinos Nortaras Memorial Rest Area easily accommodates large rigs, providing ample parking whilst affording an easy: drive-in – park – drive-out scenario.
The Rest Area features expansive lawn areas surrounded by delightful woodlands. It is well equipped with sheltered picnic tables, information, interesting POI’s and public toilets.
The Memorial Rest Area is dedicated to the founder of ‘J Notaras & Sons Sawmillers’, Lambrinos Notaras, who moved from Lawrence to Grafton in 1966. Becoming a major supplier of flooring, much of the timber was sourced from the Glenugie and Bom Bom State Forests – the major species being the ‘Spotted Gum’.
The Bobtail displayed at the Memorial Rest Area was used to remove harvested logs. The over-sized wheels provided the extra height required to raise the large end of the harvested log, thereby preventing it from digging into the ground as it was hauled from the forest . . .
