The breakwaters at Brunswick Heads commenced construction in 1959. Though the area had been settled since the late 1840’s, and the Brunswick River had been used for shipping since the cedar getting days, it took well over 100 years to attempt to ‘train’ the Brunswick River, to afford a safer passage for shipping, as well as shelter from ocean storms . .
